'Working towards the regeneration of Howden'

Howden Town Forum have established a series of objectives to meet the overall aims of the regeneration project:
  • To stimulate commercial development within Howden.
  • To encourage the continued development of a tourist base within Howden to the benefit of both the town’s commercial interests and the general built environment.
  • To raise awareness among the local business community of the various sources of financial and technical assistance available.
  • To encourage the development and improvement of locally based community facilities. To improve both the built and green environment of the town.
  • To act as a pressure group on issues involving the regeneration of Howden.

Howden Town Forum has been instrumental in making environmental improvements in and around Howden.

The Forum is currently working with art students at Hull College of Art and Design to produce a new mural for Howden. The mural will be situated on High Bridge, next to the Golden Cottage Chinese Restaurant as pictured below.
Howden Minster was recently the scene of an exhibition of work done by students of Hull College School of Art and Design. Howden Town Forum is working towards the installation of a new mural in the town and the College students had been asked to put forward ideas.
The Forum was delighted that so many members of the public took the time and trouble to attend the exhibition and would like to thank them for their comments.
As a result of the opinions given, four designs have now been selected. These winning designs were done by Rebecca Armstrong, David Lawton, Shaun Minns and Daniel Piercy. Each of the four students has been awarded £100.

A final version of the new mural and its installation will be following in due course.

The area around Knedlington Crossroads has benefitted from a Forum make-over. The trough and railings were part of improvements made around 1992.

Howden Town Forum was also involved with the introduction of many Howden’s signposts.
