A series of FREE concerts to be held on the Bishop's Manor lawn on Sunday afternoons

Concerts start at 2pm and in the event of inclement weather will be held in the Shire Hall

A month of Sundays is sponsored by Howden Town Council and the use of the Bishop's Manor lawn is by kind permission of the Press Association

Religion in Howdenshire has undergone huge changes - from medieval Catholicism through the changes of the Reformation to the arrival in the following centuries of various religious groups.

THE YORKSHIRE CONNECTIONS OF THE ARCHITECT JOSEPH HANSON - Penelope Harris 
Joseph Hansom was born in York and became an important Victorian architect and designer. He is best known for the design of the Hansom Cab although perhaps less well-known as the architect of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Howden.

HOWDEN MINSTER

ROTHWELL TEMPERANCE BRASS BAND CONCERT
Sat 18 September 2010 at 7.30pm

The renowned Rothwell Temperance Band will be giving a concert at Howden Minster on Sep 18 in aid of the Minster 'Spend a Penny' appeal.
The Minster is in desperate need of kitchen facilities and toilets and all profits from this concert will be going to the appeal fund.
Tickets will be on sale shortly priced £12 and £10 concessions.

Rothwell Temperance Band is a championship section brass band based in Rothwell, near Leeds. The band has gone from success to success in competitions and is renowned as one of the leading brass bands both nationally and internationally. It has also recorded for BBC Radio 2's Listen to the Band programme.
The concert in Howden will fall between the band's performances at the British Open at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham and the National Finals at the Albert Hall in London.
The Minster is a superb venue for brass bands and we can be certain that the Rothwell Temperance Band will provide us with a wonderful evening's entertainment.

Howden & District U3A   
The University of the Third Age (U3A) is a national organisation which has developed a network of local associations providing social, cultural and learning opportunities for retired and semi-retired people at minimal cost.
Activities are run by and for members, who share their interests and skills in a friendly and informal environment, often in members' own homes.
There are no obstacles to joining the U3A. All you need is spare time to learn and share social and cultural opportunties with like-minded people.

The Howden Town Forum 'Working towards the regeneration of Howden' holds regular meetings.

A new book written and published by Kenneth Deacon, on the men and women who built the R.100 airship in Howden.

 
The book tells the story of the building of the R.100 airship designed by Barnes Wallis (of "The Bouncing bomb fame") and built at the WW1 airship station at North Howden in 1925-29.
In the summer of 1930 the airship R.100 successfully flew to Canada and back.
The book tells the story of some of the people involved, and the background of the Officers and crew, and what happened to the best airship ever built in Britain.
It also covers the final stages of the building and testing of the R.101 airship, the final trial flight and the final flight when it crashed and burst into flames in Northern France in October 1930, while on its way to India.
It also tells the survivors stories of how they escaped from the burning wreckage.

More Tales from the East Riding
A new local history book is called ' More Tales From the East Riding and is the sequel  to 'Tales From the East Riding' published  by Tempus in November 2006.
